The "Ducktail" turns 50

RS 2.7 Worldmeeting 2022, Langenburg/Stuttgart/Weissach, Germany

04/08/ – 06/08/2022

For the RS Worldmeeting, organised by the Porsche Club Carrera 2.7 RS and Gabriele Mahler-Kurzenberger, 31 RS cars from 8 nations and around 60 RS enthusiasts met at the beautiful Mawell Resort in Langenburg on 4 August to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Porsche's style icon.

Thursday evening began with a come-together and the presentation of a world first from watch manufacturer TAG Heuer, the Carrera RS Anniversary Chronograph. On Friday, a drive through the beautiful Tauber Valley to Rothenburg ob der Tauber was on the agenda. The weekend was well cho_sen and the weather was sunny throughout. The evening BBQ could take place in the open air and the conversations were only interrupted by the delicious food. On Saturday, a visit to the Porsche Museum was on the agenda and the guided tours were enthusiastically accepted, especially since two contemporary witnesses of the RS, Roland Kussmaul and Henrik Unger, were available to tell interesting stories from the inside.

Another highlight was the visit to the clubhouse of the “Freude der luftgekühlten Boxermotoren”, Porsche's own factory club, which made for an unforgettable evening. Special guests that evening were: Peter Falk, former race director, Hans Clausecker and Günther Steckkönig, who were successful with the Trigema Porsche, Oliver Mezger, son of “engine pope” Hans Mezger - all up close and personal with a chat from the good old days.

On Sunday morning, the happy and satisfied participants of the RS Worldmeeting said goodbye at the clubhouse in Weissach.

500 RS were originally planned, but in the end 1,580 were built. Not only a legendary vehicle, but also a rare one. To see 31 RS examples on the road is something extraordinary and is more than appropriate for the anniversary.
