70 years to the day after the founding of the first Porsche Club, the worldwide Porsche Club family made a brilliant start to its anniversary season by staging the International 356 Meeting in the Netherlands.

The Dutch hospitality, joyful spirit, fine camaraderie and delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere made the three days an unforgettable experience. The famous Hotel de Bilderberg provided the perfect setting for 280 participants and their 143 classic Porsche 356 cars to celebrate friendship, family and enduring passion.

Goose bump moments were caused by Club coordinator Stephan Griese when he opened the meeting on Thursday together with Lady President Roosje Groen picking up on the special moment: “Exactly on this day when we meet again after 2 1/2 years, exactly 70 years ago, the very first Porsche Club was founded.” And he continued, that it is nice to celebrate this very day together with those who still maintain and preserve the vehicles of that time today. “This was a very emotional moment. You could see it on the faces of all the participants. And this spirit was felt throughout the entire event from then on,” he adds.

Anyone with an interest in classic Porsche vehicles would have enjoyed the visit to the Classic Centre Gelderland, where the workshop and car collection were open all day exclusively for the 356 enthusiasts. Owner Mark Wegh made this first event day a unique and unforgettable experience. The surroundings and the well-prepared roadbooks allowed the spirited drivers and their navigators to enjoy the wide range of Dutch attractions such as picturesque farms, small villages and famous windmills. The fascinating one-hour drive through the Hoge Veluwe National Park and Nature Reserve on day two was worth coming to this high-class event on its own. However, apart from all the fun and the entertaining programme, one thing mattered most to both the participants and organisers: being together again and being able to enjoy friendship and camaraderie the way it had always been before. “We missed our Porsche family a lot in the last two years,” recalls Roosje Groen, the head of the organising team and Lady President of the Dutch Club. “For us as the Porsche 356 Club Netherlands, it was an honour and also a great pleasure to restart Club life for our beloved 356 community. It’s just so heartwarming to see all the friends together again.”
